Finally - the big one! |
I have been waiting avidly for this book. I read the story for the first time when a mate left a few hundred issues of 2000AD at my house for a few weeks in the 1990s. Since then I have been waiting for this release. This is Volume ONE of two volumes, and therefore does NOT cover the whole story; it is more an introduction and build up to the main event. But even so, it is well worth having. For Judge Dredd beginners, I would recommond The Pit or Tha Apocolypse War before this one (they are single-volumes, for a start). The artwork is fantastic (full colour), the storyline is up to the usual Dredd standard and the whole package is just superb. Read it once for the plot, then again to savour those graphics and pick out the details you missed the first time around.

Surreal alphabet journey |
|
When Mog causes mayhem at Debbies birthday party, she skulks away in disgrace and falls asleep under the table. Her dreams take her on a surreal journey through the alphabet, before she awakes to join Debbie and her friends at the zoo. This is a great book to make learning letters more exciting than just A for apple, B for ball etc., as toddlers see it as a story rather than just a learning exercise. The illustrations are delightful, and help introduce a number of unfamiliar words painlessly.

History grinds itself into oblivion! |
This is, by everyone elses account, a tremendously moving tribute to the memory of Plath. However, it seems to me rather more like an attempt to prove the critics wrong, and take away the blame from Hughes. We read poem after poem of beautiful prose and moving occasion, yet the subtext is constantly asking us to believe that Plath was depressed period, that Hughes was supportive period, and ultimately, that Plaths suicide was in no way related to his Affair. "She never once invited, never tempted. / And I never stirred a finger beyond / sisterly comforting. ..." ----FIDELITY
